Upcoming 2021 Exhibitions at MMAM

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is excited to announce upcoming exhibitions scheduled for 2021. MMAM features one of the finest collections of American and European artwork in the Midwest, with works by artists such as Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keeffe and Vincent van Gogh. Complementing its historic collections are temporary exhibitions, featuring great art inspired by water. These exhibitions feature contemporary works from regional, national and international artists, and collections on loan from other cultural institutions and private collectors, and from MMAM’s own collections.

On exhibition January 15 to April 11, 2021 are oil and pastel paintings by Northfield, MN artist Frederick D. Somers in Miracle of Waters. For more than 50 years, Somers’ works have reflected themes from the land. Whether in intimate views of grass, rocks, and water with reflections of light and sky, or in spacious vistas of the countryside, he seeks to share the hidden places of nature.

Water: Shots Magazine Group Photography Exhibition, April 30 to Sept 5, 2021, will feature photographs by 39 national and international photographers exploring the theme of water. Images were selected by jury and printed in the summer 2019 issue of Shots, The Quarterly Journal of Black & White Photography, published by St. Paul, MN photographer Douglas Beasley.

In addition, a pair of exhibitions will focus on traditional marine art. 20th Century British Master Marine Artists, April 16 through June 13, 2021, features marine scenes by several of the best British marine artists of the 20th Century, while The American Society of Marine Artists 18th National Exhibition highlights the best in contemporary American marine art by over 100 artists, from June 8 to October 3, 2021.
