Are you looking to take your sketching skills to the next level? Join Minneapolis-based architect and watercolorist, Kar-Keat Chong, for a two-day workshop at MMAM focusing on ink and watercolor sketching.

This workshop aims to develop conceptual and practical skills in sketching with ink and watercolor on various types of paper. Participants will be exposed to multiple ink medium pens and learn how to sketch and shade with them. Once participants grasp the basic ink sketching techniques, they will learn how to incorporate watercolor into their ink sketches. During the workshop, participants will also learn about perspectives, composition, color concepts and design.

Skill Prerequisites: Basic drawing and watercolor painting skills

Participation in this workshop requires mobility. Locations include the MMAM classroom, outdoor museum grounds and locations throughout downtown Winona; expect some moderate walking while carrying your own materials.

Participants will:

  • Gain knowledge in using ink medium in conjunction with watercolor and types of paper used

  • Develop confidence and understand the dynamics of sketching on location

  • Understand the basics of perspective construction, composition, color concepts and design, and be able to embark on their own artistic expression through sketching

  • Acquire skills and passion for effective life-long learning

Register for the workshop

Full payment is due with registration. The registration fee is NOT refundable. Registration fee will be refunded only if the workshop is canceled by MMAM or Kar-Keat Chong.
