Mississippi River Scenes by James D. Butler
August 15, 2015 - November 5, 2015
Illinois artist James D. Butler has a passion for painting the Upper Midwest landscape, particularly the Mississippi River and the surrounding environment. Butler’s work is at one moment monumental, and at the next, intimate. The artist states, “Paintings are inventions… finding a way to create in paint an experience that might parallel what I see is a significant part of the magic of art for me.” These inventions often culminate in ambitious riverscapes that consume much of the viewer’s field of vision, offering a window into the Upper Mississippi River environment through his unique vision.
