The Wood Engravings of Winslow Homer
April 10 - August 7,2015
Winslow Homer is considered by many to be one of America’s greatest marine painters. He was also a prolific printmaker whose work was often included in publications of the day like Harper’s Weekly. These popular prints were a way that many people would access art, and they had profound influence on people’s understanding of the world. The Wood Engravings of Winslow Homer highlights Homer’s engravings, which include his portrayals of the American Civil War, as well as his landscapes, seascapes and inspirations from daily life. Complementing these prints are two significant paintings by Homer that are from the collections of the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, including an oil painting and a watercolor.
